AMERICAN LEGION, POST 197
Dues are $40.00 per year

If you have served federal active duty in the United States Armed Forces since December 7, 1941, and have been honorably discharged or are still serving – you are eligible for membership in The American Legion!
*Because eligibility dates remain open, all active-duty members of the U.S. Armed Forces are eligible to join The American Legion at this time, until the date of the end of hostilities as determined by the government of the United States.
**U.S. Merchant Marine eligible only from December 7, 1941, to December 31, 1946 (WWII).

National Guard/ Reserve – if your unit was activated under Title 10 orders during a qualifying time period. Your orders were issued by the Secretary of Defense and therefore are federal orders. Yes, you are a Veteran and would be eligible to join.

Cadet at one of the U.S. Military Academies– Yes, you are a Veteran and would be eligible to join.

Dues are $40.00 per year

We are the male and female spouses, grandmothers, mothers, sisters, and direct and adopted female descendants of members of The American Legion. Some of us are veterans ourselves:

  • grandmothers, mothers, sisters, spouses, and direct and adopted female descendants of members of The American Legion; or died in the line of duty or after honorable discharge;
  • If you are eligible through a living Veteran – they must be an active American Legion Member. You will be required to provide their Member ID# and the Post they are associated with.
    * A woman who is eligible for American Legion membership is eligible to join the American Legion Auxiliary regardless of whether or not she is a member of The American Legion. However, eligibility of her female relatives (sister, mother, direct descendants) and/or spouse depends upon her membership in The American Legion.
  • If the Veteran you are eligible through is deceased. Proof of their DD214 is required with the application. The link to receive a copy of the DD214 is listed above.

SONS OF THE AMERICAN LEGION, SQUADRON 197
Dues are $30.00 per year

SAL members include males of all ages whose parents or grandparents served in the U.S. military and were eligible for American Legion membership. 

All male descendants, adopted sons, and stepsons of members of The American Legion, and such male descendants of veterans who died in service during World War I, and December 7, 1941, to date, as set forth in Article IV, Section 1, of the National Constitution of The American Legion, or who died subsequent to their honorable discharge from such service, shall be eligible for membership in the Sons of The American Legion.

  • If you are eligible through a living Veteran – they must be an active American Legion Member. You will be required to provide their Member ID# and the Post they are associated with.
  • If the Veteran you are eligible through is deceased. Proof of their DD214 is required with the application. The link to receive a copy of the DD214 is listed above.
